Officer Dennis “D.J.” Simmonds dies from injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Simmonds dies after a medical emergency at the Boston Police Academy gym in Hyde Park. He had suffered a head injury from an explosion during the shoot-out with Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in Watertown.
